'Crikey' and Perfect Peter

Australia has lost two of its most well know public figures this week. Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, and Peter Brock, the racing driver and TV personality. What is remarkable is that they couldn't be more unalike at a personal level.

Peter Brock - Another Australian Icon Dies

Australian race car driver Peter Brock died just before noon Perth time in the Targa West '06 rally being held at Gidgegannup about 25 miles north-east of Perth when he lost control of his car and hit a tree. His co-driver, Mick Hone, survived and is in stable condition.

Crikey, Mate - a State Funeral?

I noticed today that Steve Irwin's father declined the offer of a state funeral from both the Prime Minister, John Howard, and the Queensland Premier, Peter Beattie. According to the Australian newspaper today his father said.
